We have been writing about the tax relief industry since the founding of this blog in 2008. When we created the blog, we wanted to highlight some bad practices in the tax resolution field in the hope that the industry would mature and become more ethical. Overtime, one of our most popular pages became the Graveyard of Tax Relief Companies.
You can visualize the tax relief industry's twists and turns in the annual closing rates of companies as stated here:
2009 - 4, 2010 - 7, 2011 - 10, 2012 - 12, 2013 - 8, 2014 -15, 2015 - 12, 2016 - 9
We think the first cycle of closures - 2009 to 2012 - stemmed from the recession and due to law enforcement truly starting to take tax relief scams seriously. Tax relief company closures in the 2013 to 2016 cycle we think are more the result of the IRS just not pursuing people with tax problems as aggressively as before, i.e., GOP budget cuts.
The "tax relief" industry is a leaner and more ethical industry today. We are proud of our 28 year history and this blog's contribution to creating more ethical practices.
