In the last two years, Congress passed a law revoking passports for folks who owe more than $50,000.00. Now they're finally going to enforce it.
The good news is if you are in a payment plan or Offer in Compromise with the IRS they will refrain from revoking the passport.
Kiplinger's reports that "beginning later this year, the IRS will send a notice to affected taxpayers. And it will give a list to the State Department. Before denying passports, State will give folks 90 days to satisfy the debt or agree to a payment plan with the IRS."
