Ten years after it was implemented, the passport block for owing back taxes is still in place and seems to be implemented more than ever. In fact, you might have a higher chance of getting your passport block than LEVIED by the IRS! No kidding. If you owe more than $62,000 to the IRS and do not have a payment plan, Offer in Compromise, Currently Not Collectible request in place, you will not be able to renew your US Passport. In rare cases, they will revoke your passport, but that is not very common.
