Today we received a notice from a client who is already in currently not collectible status. We had his case placed in currently not collectible about a year ago. The letter from the IRS indicated that he had NOT filed his 2008 return. This is seriously problematic. Not filing and paying your taxes while you are in currently not collectible COULD kick you out of that status.
We called him and told him to NOT mess around, and to file his return immediately.
Currently not collectible is fantastic. You pay nothing. Just be a good taxpayer going forward. The debt will eventually expire.
