If you are one of the unlucky ones who owes more than $100,000 in personal income taxes, you may just be assigned to the "Large Dollar Unit" of IRS collections. These two offices are based in Buffalo and Long Island, New York. The Buffalo office handles large dollar cases for wage earners.  The Long Island office handles the cases of those who are self-employed.

UPDATE 9/28/2011 Large Dollar Cases are Moving to the Field.  Office to Change Focus: Breaking News: Large Dollar Cases to Move to Field

While it sucks to owe 100k plus, the Large Dollar Unit is NOT so bad:  they are often very very slow at working cases - and that just may be to your benefit. we have had several cases in the last couple months that have really dragged out. HOWEVER, when this division acts aggressively, they can really kick ass. Once a levy is in place, it is not easy to get released. One thing is for sure: this division wants a lot of detail before they resolve your case. Be prepared to get your a) bank statements b) medical expense proof ....virtually anything that will prove you're spending your hard-earned money.

WE have a lot of tricks for dealing with the Large Dollar Unit or if your case is assigned to a Revenue Officer.  Please call us for an analysis of your large dollar case, and whether tax representation will benefit you.  Staff of Washington Tax Services, phone 1-888-282-4697.
